Panasonic GM1 Claims Two Titles: Smallest ILC and First MFT with Electronic Shutter

Today, the smallest ILC (Interchangeable Lens Camera) in the world is is the Pentax Q-series — starting with the Q, then the Q10 and finally the most recent Q7. Panasonic may claim that title soon with the rumored GM1 featuring Micro Four Thirds sensor which is much larger than the diminutive sensor found in the Pentax cameras.

There has been talks of early October release of Panasonic's highly anticipated addition to the MFT camera line-up.  That's only a couple of week away at the most.

The main complaint people had about the Q and Q10 was the tiny 1/2.3-inch sensor. The Q7 upgraded to a 1/1.7-inch sensor, which helped a bit with the grumbling, but still, a tiny camera usually mandates a tiny sensor if you want everything to to cooperate with each other.

GM1 featuring a full Micro Four Thirds sensor is expected to be similar in size to the Sony RX100MII.  That's a remarkable achievement.  It is also rumored to featured electronic shutter in place of mechanical shutter that takes up more space, thus claiming another title of being the first MFT camera with electronic sensor..
