Canon Powershot G16 Review and Best Deal
The first thing you may notice when you see the description of Canon's flagship compact travel camera is the fact that it only has maximum resolution of 12.1MP. Any serious photographer know that it's not "higher the better" when it comes to megapixel count. It's quiet the opposite in most cases with small size sensors used in entry to mid level compact cameras.
Canon's G series camera used to be the king of compact fixed lens cameras some time ago when there was as much competition from the likes of Sony, Nikon and Olympus. In recently years, it has lost much of its market share in this highly dynamic camera market with so many new types of cameras in eye catching marketing headlines attached to attract casual shooter
Canon PowerShot G16 was introduced after eleven months since PowerShot G15, with a new level of image quality and performance to the manufacturers advanced compact range. The external styling and design doesn't show much of change though, however, plenty of development has taken place under the hood that makes the difference in the image quality for various shooting scenarios.
Highlight of improvements over G15:
- Sensor – The resolution is identical. The size is also identical. However, the reworked sensor works better in high ISO performances according to Canon. The sensor uses a new back-illuminated technology, and the captured image is fed into an enhanced processor.
- Movie mode has improved and is now capable of recording MP4 format. It is now capable of 1080p/60 mode. Time-lapse recording is now possible.
- Much faster AF speed and Increased continuous frames per second (JPEGs at 12.5fps vs 10fps in G15)
