SONY A5000 is the Next Generation Mirrorless Compact
Sony claims the title, "The World Lightest Interchangeable Lens Camera" with its latest addition to alpha series - A5000. Panasonic has already claimed to spot for "the world smallest interchangeable lens camera" with Lumix GM1 not too long ago.
Suprisingly A5000 is only slightly larger than GM1 even though it houses bigger APS-C sensor. This mirrorless camera features a 20.1MP APS-C CMOS sensor, Bionz X processor, and built-in Wi-Fi, and only weighs 210g (7.4 oz.) without battery, card, or lens.
One of the hugely welcome addition is the Wi-fi functionality which allows for a range of applications - both free and paid-for - to be downloaded to the camera such as Photo Retouch app and app tailored for Time-lapse capture.
The new naming scheme leaves the NEX series behind, a risky but potentially rewarding endeavor in the long run for the company.
Additional features include NFC for easy Wi-Fi connectivity; a 3" 460K-dot LCD that flips forward for easy self-portraits; a built-in pop-up flash; and a zoom control built into the body to control power zoom lenses. The a5000 can also use Sony PlayMemories Camera Apps, which work similarly to smartphone apps to make adding features to the camera a simple option.
The A5000 will be available for sale in about a week from today, but you can actually pre-order it right now for $100 below MSRP.
Lowest Price - Sony Alpha a5000 20.1 MP SLR Camera, $498
