Nikon Unveils New Compact Mirrorless Camera, Nikon 1 J4

Available for pre-order today, Nikon has unveiled a compact mirrorless model with 18.4-megapixel CX format CMOS sensor, WiFi, 60 FPS and touchscreen LCD.  Nikon 1 J4 can be purchased with 10-30 mm VR lens for $596.95.

The new interchangeable-lens cameras offers a number of upgrades from its predecessors including an increased ISO light sensitivity range to 12,800 (for shooting in very low light). It has also been reduced in size with a lighter weight compared to the older model.

The Nikon 1 J4 features a 20 fps continuous shooting frame rate at full resolution, with 171-contrast detect focus areas and 105 phase-detect autofocus (AF) points effective for both stills and HD video.

One notable addition to Nikon 1 J4 is the ability to rapidly shoot and analyze 4 photos and combine them into one to reduce image noise. This fantastic little camera features a number of creative options for both still and video capture, including Toy Camera, which makes photos of life-sized scenes look like toy miniatures.

The Nikon 1 J4's video capture capability surely shine compared to its competitors. First of all, you can capture still and video at the same time.

It can shoot 1080p full-HD video at 60 frames per second, and capture 720p HD video at up to 120 fps, to play back at 2x slow motion.

Available this month, the Nikon 1 J4 will sell for $650 with a 3X (10-30mm) zoom kit lens. Available in June, the Nikon 1 S2, kitted with a 11-27.5mm lens, will sell for $450. Additional lens combinations are also available.
