Panasonic Lumix GM5 is Much Improved over GM1
If the size and image quality equally important to you, then look no further. Panasonic's latest successor to the world's smallest interchangeable lens camera GM1 is Lumix DMC-GM5. It was recently unveiled and you can pre-order it today.
Despite the diminutive size, Panasonic managed to shoehorn an electronic viewfinder (EVF) above the 3-inch touchscreen LCD - a feature missing in the GM1 and most other compact size ILC cameras.
In exchange for the highly demanded EVF feature, the pop-up flash from the previous form-factor has been removed, in favor of a hot shoe. The GM5 comes bundled with an external flash. If you do a lot of outdoor shooting during daylight, EVF is definitely more appreciated than a built-in flash.
The EVF is rated at 1,166k dots with 100-percent field of view and 100-percent color reproduction which is far below class leading 2,360k dots of Olympus OM-D E-M1 but still respectable.
Video capability has also been improved to Full HD at 1080/60p (versus 60i of the GM1). Suprisingly, the cinema quality 24p has also been added.
One notable video feature is "casual snap movie' mode which reminds me of vines and quick snapchat videos. This special mode creates video snapshots in short duration such as 2, 4, 6 or 8 seconds with several special effects.
The GM5 can also shoot panorama photos among many other new features. This is truly well executed upgrade by Panasonic.
