Panasonic Leica 15mm f/1.7 Prime Wide Angle Lens

The Panasonic Leica DG SUMMILUX 15mm f1.7 lens is a compact prime lens with 30mm equivalent local length.

If you have tried or owns one of the Panasonics Leica branded lens such as 25mm f/1.4 lens, you know these things can produce magical images that with such a unique feel to them.

This lens is designed to be semi pancake with fast aperture at f1.7  Comparing to Panasonic's own 14mm f/2.5, it is noticeably larger.  But the 15mm f/1.7 is in quiet different league.  It received rave reviews from almost all major photo magazine and professional review websites.

The lens features nine elements in seven groups and seven aperture blades, considered to be fairly simple design.  The price is relative low given its super performance and high build quality.  It is mainly targeted at street photographers.  Personally I wish it was closer to 17mm or 18mm for shooting candid shots on the street, but 15mm will be good to capture more of the surrounding scene.

The manual aperture ring on this lens is another great feature. In fact, this is the very first Panasonic MFT lens to have aperture ring. There is even MF/AF switch mounted on 2 o'clock position.

Originally release with $599 price tag, the price has now dropped to $497.
