The First Canon EF to Micro Four Thirds Adapter with Autofocus

Here is a great news for those who have made the switch from Canon DSLR system to Micro Four Thirds format camera.  Well, it could be a bad new if you have already sold off all your Canon lenses.

Kipon unveiled an adapter to bring Canon EF/EF-S lenses alive and fully functional on Micro Four Thirds cameras, including autofocus function.

Up until the announcement of this amazing little adapter, you only had an option to focus manually or inconsistent and limited AF function when using Canon lenses on MFT camera.  There was another expensive option of using Speed Booster adapter by Metabones priced at $599.

Typical dummy adapters without electronic connections could be had for cheap, and hundreds of models were available on Amazon and Ebay.

The new EF/EF-S to Micro Four Thirds adapter features electronic contacts and a built-in circuit board instead of an iris ring, which work together to transmit autofocus, image stabilisation and EXIF data to MFT cameras.

If you want to use Canon lenses like native MFT lenses on MFT camera, this it the only option.

The new adapter is not available for sale now, and is expected to cost somewhere around $285. Kipon also manufactures another adapter with electronic connections for aperture control for $122. (Kipon EOS-m4/3 Canon EOS to Micro Four Thirds Lens Adapter w/ Aperture Control)
